North Central Church of Christ
Indianapolis, IN

Sanctuary Renovation including acoustics, audio, video and lighting.

Read a review of the final project from Topics.com via a PDF version of the posted article here. (September 23, 2004) Note; the article states $500,000 was spent on the project; this included the entire renovation, acoustics, sound, lights, video and HVAC systems.

Above - The shoe-box shape is typical of many churches, but the curved ceiling adds an extra acoustical condition to fix up. The curved surface focuses sound - to fix this, the single smooth surface needs to be interrupted and broken up.
Above - View from the platform. As you can see, this was a very traditional style church sanctuary. The old point-source speaker (seen in the first photo as a black rectangle near the central ceiling) was not connected to anything. The speakers being used were a set of small speakers, mounted on the left and right sides at the front pillars, and then again halfway back. No delay was in place to align the two signals.
Above - Architects rendering of the proposed new platform after the church was provided with acoustical details which he included in the renovation plans.

Above - New platform; hardwood was used, as this is a Church of Christ. Note the matching floor monitors. The two monitors facing the congregation are in place for the background vocalists, who stand in the front row as part of the congregation. This is not ideal, though works for their ministry.
Above - Two rear-projection 4:3 format video screens were installed as part of the renovation process.
