North Central Church of Christ, Indianapolis, IN

Sanctuary renovations which included a desire to sweeten the acoustics and install an updated speaker system. The orientation consulting visit was made in early January, 2004, and renovations began mid-year. The expect to complete the entire project by late July.

The shoe-box shape is typical of many churches, but the curved ceiling adds an extra acoustical condition to fix up. The curved surface focuses sound - to fix this, the single smooth surface needs to be interrupted and broken up.

At this point in construction, Steven had this to say:
"The outrounds as a whole actually add to the look of the room. Everyone who has seen them has been impressed.
It was amazing the difference in sound when they put them all up. Because of the bare concrete it's very live, but much more pleasing."

Below are two photos (From Steven, again) showing the completed room. In my personal opinion, the rear-projection screens are very bright, clear, and balance each other quite nicely. The speaker system is tight to the center ceiling outround, and blends in nicely.

In an e-mail to me, Steven has said "The room sounds great! I've heard nothing but compliments on the acoustics, lighting, video and audio!!!"

There's still a little tweaking to do with the audio system - but, as in all new construction or renovations, it will take some time for the room to cure and dry. As this occurs, the room will change slightly, thus requiring a few additional tweaks.
