A church that's been around for quite some time, this one was
still using the (4) column speakers that had been used in the
old sanctuary up until 35 years ago when the new sanctuary was
built. (Those speakers are a good 40 years old or more!) While
2 of the speakers still sounded pretty good, the other two were
damaged and produced distorted sound. Coverage was not ideal at
all, although the system had been put in with the best of intentions.
Acoustically the room suffers from flutter echoes between the
side walls and is almost too dead of a room for more traditional
music. No treatment was decided to be done at this time. |
|

The main portion of the sanctuary is covered by a pair of EAW
MK series speakers mounted near the peak. |
|

The speakers are mounted to a steel beam run between the two
laminated beams. This allows the speakers to be adjusted horizontally
for the best interaction between the two.
|
|

Both speakers are lifted into place with the use of a winch mounted
on the steel beam. A blanket over the top of the speaker keeps
the custom paint finish from being damaged. (All 6 speakers and
their related steel brackets were painted with a custom color
by Mr. Dennis B. The paint match is so on-target, bolt heads painted
blend right in with the beam they're run through. Great job, Dennis! |
|

Because of the building design, the four large laminated beam
trusses block the sound from the main pair of speakers. The only
way to cover the rest of the room (the two side seating areas)
would be to lower the cluster pair another 4 to 6 feet (which
wasn't feasable), or add fill speakers, which was done. |
|

A fill speaker and choir monitor speaker were mounted to the
outside of this center beam. (Look on the right side of the beam,
in front of the green ladder.) |
|

The two speakers blend right into the ceiling and provide coverage
to even the rear corner seating. |
 |
|

The center speakers are hung just above the cross which hangs
over the alter. There are no seats in which the cross is blocked
by the main speakers (except for the side seating areas where
the laminated beams block the cross before the speakers even do).

| All of the equipment was installed into two racks in the
sacristy. Although this method is against the proper way
to do it, the church could not be convinced that the controls
should be in the sanctuary (even though it cost less to
put them there!). The rack on the right contains the wireless
microphone receivers, mixer, tape record and tape playback
decks and CD player. The rack on the left contains the amplifiers
for the main speakers as well as DSP and analog EQ (for
the foyer speaker system). One of the existing amplifiers
was used to power the 70-volt feed for the foyer (the existing
EQ and a new signal delay unit was also installed on this
circuit). A LynTech power sequence system was installed
to turn the system on and off with the push of a single
button. |
