Fellowship of the Rockies, Colorado Springs, CO

Project in Progress (2003)

In July of 2003 we worked with this church in Colorado. The basic issue was that they planned to rotate the sanctuary a full 180-degrees. In doing so, they planned a new audio system and wanted to get the acoustics fixed up from the beginning.

Once again, another typical rectangular room with a number of twists. On either side of the platform there are two small rooms; these would be removed during the renovation. In addition, a portion of the side of the sanctuary is open into the joining fellowship hall.

As usual, we spent time talking with those in charge of the project at the church (head sound man, pastors, etc.) as well as some of the construction team who planned to begin work two days after we finished our visit. We set up test equipment and took some acoustical measurements to verify and provide solid numbers.

The final report included details for the audio system, acoustics, lighting, HVAC, and video projection systems.

As of October 2003, the project is now complete and we await some photos from the church to update this page. In the near future, we have a chance to visit the church again during which time we plan to take additional photos and possibly a video interview of how the project went.

October 26, 2003 I had the opportunity to visit the church for a Sunday morning service. While they're waiting to replace the carpet and the hanging lights in the next few weeks, the bulk of the project is complete.

Here are a few photos taken while there. Notice the outrounds - they blend in quite well, don't they? Some have been painted alternate color to add to the aesthetic beauty of the room.

The photo below shows some of the detail of the side wall diffusion. Unless you stare at them, it's hard to see they're not flat.

The photo below shows a very interesting detail. Near the conclusion of the project, there were some mechanicals which needed to be hidden. The contractor suggested the use of a very large cardboard concrete form tube from floor to ceiling. With the final orange peel in place the tube looks just like the rest of the wall; it looks like a pillar made of drywall!

Additional photos will be posted later along with photos of the construction process.
This web page will be udated throughout the remainder of the project;
be sure to check back often!
